The Student Leadership Shenandoah County (SLSC) Program equips students with opportunities to acquire and implement leadership skills in their school and community.  The mission of SLSC is to foster the development of student leadership skills through various experiences.

The SLSC program is for rising Sophomores and Juniors

Our Goals:

  • Identify high school students who are leaders or have demonstrated leadership potential. 
  • Give young people the knowledge, tools, and contacts to create successful leaders.
  • Instill and nurture a sense of social responsibility in our youth.
  • Offer a forum for young leaders to express their needs, goals, and opinions.
  • Explore the diverse facets of Shenandoah County’s social affairs, government, and business.
  • Provide participants a chance to serve their community.
  • Present young leaders with a renewing and fun experience.

2021 Student Leadership Course Outline

Days begin at 7:45 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. at the Shenandoah County Government Center Board Room (600 N. Main St, Woodstock, parking in the rear of the building). Attire is casual (no flip flops or t-shirts) and Attendance is mandatory

Monday, June 

Team Building Retreat, Ag & Tourism – A great day to get to know each other and enjoy the ropes course in the morning. After lunch we will discover the County’s agricultural and tourism resources and how they affect Shenandoah County.  Sponsored by: Mid Atlantic Farm Credit

Tuesday, June 

Local Government – An overview of the structure and function of our local government along with discussion of government’s role in addressing local challenges.

Wednesday, June 

 Public Safety – A look at our law enforcement agencies and how they interact. Includes tours of the RSW Regional Jail and County Courthouse.

Thursday, June 

Business/Industry – A look at the diversity of the local business economy including a statistical overview of the county. Includes tours of several area businesses and industries.

Friday, June 

Health Care and Human Needs–An overview of medical care in Shenandoah County including tours of SMH, Dept. of Social Services, clinics and special care facilities. Discussions will focus on the current health care and human needs issues facing our community.

4:00 pm Graduation – A special event honoring your completion of the Leadership Shenandoah County Program. Parents and friends are welcome to join us.
